I am currently listening to nothing but the sweet sound of rain falling on the roof and windows.
Darkness in my room and outside hides the drops and only reveals their presence by the melody they make, pitter-pattering around me. Every inch of grass, house and car is soaked and covered by the falling water. If I were to walk outside drops would greet me rapidly and slowly overwhelm by body. I could definitely choose to be uncomfortable, go back inside, maybe grab an umbrella.
I could jump. I could run around and spread my arms, smile and embrace the plummeting rain all around me.
That’s pretty crazy how rain consumes the earth with its countless drops.
Sitting in my bed, listening to the rain outside, in this darkness, makes me think of my God.
My God cannot be seen but he can be felt.
Just like the rain consumes the earth my God’s love and presence consumes my heart. I could use an umbrella to shield myself from his presence but it wouldn’t change the fact that it is still raining. Nothing on this earth can separate us from God’s love. God is still pursuing you and me even when we are not paying any attention to him.
Similar to the water falling from the sky and filling up rivers, God's love flows into people and their hearts. A person can choose to let waste and pollution flow into their stream but none of those things keeps one’s heart pure.
Rain produces life.
Flowers and plants thrive on the water that comes from the clouds. The love that God has for us caused Him to send His son to die for us so that we may have LIFE eternal in Him. That’s crazy. There is a joy in knowing my God that is great cause for dancing, jumping, and running in the rain. Being in a relationship with my God is not easy but is so so worth it.
Rain eventually will stop falling but the love my God has for you and me will endlessly fill up the world.
